Preventive Care

Prevention is the best defense against tooth and gum disease and associated problems. Brushing twice a day, routine flossing, regular dental exams and professional cleanings are the best steps toward prevention. We invite you to schedule an appointment for a comprehensive examination. Even if you think your mouth is in perfect health, we suggest you come in for regular exams. Maintenance and prevention are the best ways to keep your attractive smile healthy and help prevent more costly treatments in the future!

During regular check-ups and recall visits, we take care to ensure the ongoing health of your teeth. In particular, we strive to prevent cavities and disease by using: Digital x-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, routine periodontal (gum) examinations, and oral cancer screenings, laser soft tissue management.

Periodontics

Over 75% of Americans age 35 and over have some form of gum disease, a result of poor dental hygiene and the subsequent build-up of plaque. In its earliest stage, your gums might swell and bleed easily. At its worst, you might lose your teeth. So, if you want to keep your teeth, you must take care of your gums. The good news is that gum disease is preventable in most cases. Attention to everyday oral hygiene (brushing and flossing), coupled with professional cleanings twice a year, could be all that’s needed to prevent and actually reverse the early stage of gum disease. If you have gum disease, Dr. Evelyn will identify it during your exam and recommend the best treatment for the level of severity.

Endodontics

Endodontics deals with diseases of the tissue, blood vessels, and nerves inside the tooth. The most common endodontic treatment is called a “root canal,” a procedure used to remove infected tissue and refill the nerve canal inside the tooth. A root canal allows you to retain your natural tooth while eliminating the infection.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are plates of porcelain that are bonded on the front surface of the anterior teeth. Although they are very thin, veneers become very strong once bonded to the tooth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent choice for covering cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. Because of their natural appearance, porcelain veneers can make a very pleasing looking improvement to your smile. Veneers have advantages over other treatments - often, little or no anesthesia is required for the procedure and little or no tooth structure needs to be removed.

Crowns & Bridges

A crown is a prosthetic tooth that is used to restore teeth where the structure is too weakened or damaged to accept amalgam or dental composite fillings. Dental technology has come a long way to improve the look of crowns. Compared to the old style bridges, these works of art are exceptionally well fitting and very natural looking. Using a bridge or crown with a metal base covered with porcelain or using all porcelain material eliminates the dark edges at the gum line that were visible with the old style bridges and crowns.

Full and Partial Dentures

Dentures can take the place of missing natural teeth. Dentures allow patients to chew and speak more easily while improving their appearance and boosting self-confidence. Full dentures are used when all of a patient’s teeth need to be replaced. Partial dentures are used when only a few teeth are missing. In either case, dentures can help you look and feel your best.

Composite Bonding

A less expensive and less invasive remedy than crowns or veneers, composite bonding is an effective technique used to improve the appearance of your teeth. Bonding is ideal for masking teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or injured teeth or reducing gaps between teeth. During the procedure, a delicate layer of plastic is painted onto the damaged teeth, adding strength and making them virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Composite bonding is a quick process, typically lasting less than an hour. Compared to veneers or crowns, it is a popular choice because it does not reduce the tooth’s original structure. Composite bonding is also relatively inexpensive. And finally, composite resins are available in many different shades. The shade can be chosen to match the natural color of the original tooth. This type of bonding however will need to be redone after a while due to staining.

Anxiety-free Dentistry

If going to the dentist is stressful for you, we can ease your anxiety with comfortable methods such pre-medication or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or a combination of both. You can also relax knowing that Dr. Evelyn is well known for her extremely gentle touch and the office has been designed with the latest advances in dentistry to make your treatment as painless as possible.

Tooth Whitening

Over time, teeth can lose their brightness and become discolored from drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and from the inevitable process of aging. No matter what age you are, dazzling, bright white teeth will transform your appearance and makes you look more attractive and feel more confident. Bristow Dental Care provides convenient “at-home” Tray Whitening” systems for their patients. Developed from custom-fitted models of your teeth, the whitening trays are then placed in your mouth to give brighter, whiter teeth.

Invisible Braces

Invisible braces that we provide-such as Invisalign-straighten your teeth without the need for uncomfortable and unsightly metal wires and brackets. While braces produce beautiful results, many patients never wear them for fear of looking unattractive or having many cavities at the end of the treatment. Invisalign is an alternative way to produce results-and is nearly invisible. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth right before your eyes. Change them about every two weeks, and your teeth will move-little by little, week by week-until they have moved to the final position your dentist has prescribed.

Implants

Implants offer a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth for those patients who are suitable candidates for this treatment. Dental implants have become a choice treatment option for many patients who are missing one or more teeth. A dental implant is a replacement tooth “root” constructed of medical grade titanium. Dental implants are extremely stable, strong and natural looking. Patients with dental implants are able to eat, smile, and laugh without fear of embarrassment that their denture may slip or click, or that their bridge will trap food.

Benefits of Dental Implants

• Eat all those delicious foods that are difficult to chew.
• Smile without concern about your teeth.
• Talk and laugh with the fear of missing teeth being noticed or dentures becoming loose or falling out.
• Dental implants can never decay.
• Dental implants have the potential of lasting a lifetime.

Dental Sealants

Thanks to fluoride, dental sealants and better dental habits, fifty percent of school-age children now have no cavities. Bristow Dental Care provides quality, effective dental sealants for your children’s teeth that will protect them from the normal causes of cavities.

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards are often used to protect your child’s teeth from injury due to teeth grinding and during sports. The guard usually covers the upper teeth; however, if your child wears braces or another fixed dental appliance on his lower jaw, Dr. Evelyn may suggest a mouth protector for these teeth, too.
